Get everything in writing!

When planning a destination wedding most communication with vendors and venues, is either done by email or phone. There are many times that a phone call is much easier then trying to explain things by email. In these situtuations you will want a pad of paper with you so that you can write down all changes and descision that were made. Imidiatly after your conversation you will want to send an email to that person confirming the items you discussed and all descisions and changes made. This way they can send you a confirmation email and you have everything on paper. If changes are made through email you will want to confirm the changes very specifically so that everyone is in complete understanding. Things that make this a bit easier is by using the bullet points

Example:

Changes to the cake.

Fondant instead of butter cream
Fondant in a cream color
10”, 8”, 6” round tiers
Cherry blossom design *Please see attached photo

It is small things like this which can make a big difference on the day of the wedding. This will help insure you don’t end up with a sqaure tier cake with bubbles on it!

Favors are a wonderful way to show your guests how much you appreciate their love and support. When having a Yosemite Wedding there are certain favors that can NOT be used. Here is a list….

Yosemite Wedding Tips #4

So now you have the wedding date set and a Gorgeous Yosemite backdrop now when to send the invitations. This is what I have found works best when having a Yosemite Wedding.

Save-the-dates: As soon as the date is set and the venue booked!
Invitations: 3 months before the wedding date
RSVP Card: Due 1 month prior to wedding date (this allows you to have place cards created and in your hands before you leave for your week of wedding fun)

This is a pretty good rule for most destination weddings. You have to consider for a Yosemite wedding there are limited locations to stay, in and around the Park and they book very quickly. Sending save the dates and invitations earlier gives your family and guests a greater chance of finding the perfect accommodations.

Nature Inspired Wedding ~ Moss

One of my favorite pieces of nature is moss. It comes in so many forms, from flat sheet moss that easily covers monograms and boxes, to mood moss that gives that mossy rock look, to the soft delicate reindeer moss that can enhance branches, arrangements, and even cakes (reindeer moss is the only moss you can actually have next to food). Always check the packaging though, sometimes dyes are added.

Moss is definitly one of my favorites!

Yosemite Wedding Tips #3

Eating on your wedding day is VERY important. With all of the busyness of the day it is sometimes the last thing on the list. Especially when you have a Yosemite Wedding and you are traveling around taking those Gorgeous photos. Before you even head up the hill pack a small sack with some easy munchies. Making sure to pack simple foods (that won’t ruin your dress!) Like bags of nuts, granola bars, protein bars, carrots, apples, turkey sandwich, and don’t forget a couple of waters. It will be perfect to have with you while driving from spot to spot to take photos. These things will help you keep your energy up throughout the day. (No fainting brides or grooms here!)

Last week I told you about hand warmers, which are precious little packets that keep you warm when out in the cool weather. Another item that is equally invaluable when taking wedding photos outdoors in the fall and winter is a good pair of shoes. I know you will have those gorgeous heels for walking down the aisle, however trying to walk around in Yosemite while taking those iconic photographs is just insane. Nature Inspired Wedding

For the next few months I will be doing a series on Nature Inspired Weddings. It will be a collection of ideas, photos, and products that capture the spirit of nature.

For many of us our love for the outdoors invokes a natural response to add touches of nature to our wedding decor.

For Chad and Ambrea’s woodsy inspired reception we enhanced the table with moss and add a wooden stand to a modern fondant cake. This yummy cake was created by Creme de la Cake.

Yosemite Wedding Tips

The weather has cooled down, here in the Mountains. Which encourages snuggling (my favorite) and warm clothes. It however is not always fun to stand in when you are in your wedding dress taking photos.

So today’s tip is, hand warmers.

They are handy little things you can stick in your pocket. They stay warm for hours and it is such a pleasure every time you put your hands around them! I always have them in my wedding day emergency kit. It is a must have for couples taking photos in Yosemite (or any location) when the weather is chilly. I usually find mine in the $1 bins at Target. You can also find them online at Amazon.com. Zippo has a refillable one which is pictured here.
